Wp
The detail of the frontline shows the peaks of Mount Nozzolo occupied and defended by the Landsturmbataillon 170. The comand is located on Nozzolo peak. This was a territorial defence unit , not regular austro-ungarian army. Behind them is the Pozza position, where Lt. Fischmann comanded his batteries. The comander of this battalion is Major Freiherr von Handel-Mazzern. In front of them on Mount Vies is an italian Alpini - Battalion, these was an high performed and well trained unit of the italian army. On the left wing is the located the 3. and the 4. company of the Landsturmbatallion 168, an terrtiorial defence unit, too. The reserve unit ist the 12/168 , an half-company nearby Ladaro Fortification belt. The commander of the Ladaro frontline up to Mount Nozzolo is Lt.-Colonel Fussenegger. On the right wing, the italian frontline is very distant. This is due to 2 facts: In the middle is the Concei Valley, there was no possibility to advance, because the austrian frontline is much higher and occupied by volonteers of the Battalions "Bezau" and "Klausen". This was another argoment for italian comands not to advance: These old volonteers were highly experienced mountain men and sharpshooters! And the experience was, that these men never gave up a position and retreat, defending their positions in a very tricky and intelligent way. Comander of the "Bezau" Battalion is First Lt. Pruckmaier. The frontline goes from Mount Cadria over Mount Spadolone in direction to the Riva-section. A battalion of the territorial defence have had between 300 and 500 men at all including all logistic and reserve units.VJ This is the hole frontline, where the batteries of Lt.Fischmann have had their targets: First of all the positions of the alpini battalion on Mount Vies and the positons of italian troops at Tiarno, Bezzecca and Lake Ledro. The italian units were parts of the infantry reggiment No.123 and Bersaglieri reggiment No.7. VJ
